Mo Alie-Cox Re-ups with Indianapolis
Fri, Apr 11, 2025, 9:43 AM
Alie-Cox re-signed with the Colts on Friday.
Analysis: Alie-Cox will return to Indianapolis for his eighth NFL season, having spent the previous seven with the Colts. His blocking ability has earned Alie-Cox steady playing time in what has been an underwhelming tight-end room in recent years, but he has fallen short of 200 receiving yards in each of the past three regular seasons.
Daniel Jones
Daniel Jones Will split first-team reps
Mon, Mar 31, 2025, 3:05 PM
Jones and Anthony Richardson (back) will split first-team reps this spring, JJ Stankevitz of Colts.com reports.
Analysis: Coach Shane Steichen and GM Chris Ballard both suggested there's no timetable for naming a Week 1 starter, with both QBs expected to get significant first-team reps throughout the offseason program (and possibly into training camp). The Colts recently signed Jones to a one-year, $14 million contract that includes $13.15 million guaranteed, putting him above the market for backup quarterbacks but not quite in starter range. It sounds like he and Richardson will split reps 50/50 at the beginning of OTAs.

Anthony Richardson Facing job battle with Jones
Mon, Mar 31, 2025, 9:10 AM
Colts coach Shane Steichen recently said Richardson (back) and Daniel Jones will split first-team reps this spring and into training camp, Joel A. Erickson of the Indianapolis Star reports.
Analysis: Taken fourth overall in the 2023 draft, Richardson has missed 17 of a possible 34 games because of injuries and was benched for another two for performance reasons, with lowlights of his career to date including a 47.7 percent completion rate in 2024. It at least sounds like he'll be healthy for the start of the offseason program, after missing the final two weeks of last season with a back injury. Jones has his own shortcomings and is highly unlikely to ever be anything more than a low-end starter or solid backup, but superior accuracy on short passes is one clear edge he has over Richardson, along with a better track record of availability (although that hasn't exactly been a strength for Jones, either).
Anthony Richardson
Anthony Richardson Competition arrives
Thu, Mar 13, 2025, 12:15 PM
Richardson (back) looks slated to spend the offseason in an open competition for the No. 1 quarterback spot with Daniel Jones, whom the Colts signed to a one-year contract Wednesday, Stephen Holder of ESPN reports.
Analysis: General manager Chris Ballard has stated that Indianapolis will hold an open competition to determine a Week 1 starter for the 2025 campaign. That QB battle will take the form of Richardson, the No. 4 overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft, versus Jones, a 2019 first-rounder who started for New York until 2024, when he was benched and ultimately released. Richardson has struggled with both consistency and availability across two seasons in the NFL, having appeared in just four games as a rookie and 11 games in 2024, though he has displayed a higher potential ceiling than the more experienced Jones. Training camp and the preseason will prove pivotal for the careers of both Richardson and Jones, as the pair of signal-callers compete for one starting job.
Daniel Jones
Daniel Jones Deal with Indy made official
Wed, Mar 12, 2025, 4:20 PM
The Colts officially agreed to terms with Jones on Wednesday, JJ Stankevitz of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Per Stephen Holder of ESPN, Jones' one-year deal with Indianapolis is for $14 million. The stage is thus set for Jones -- the No. 6 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft -- to compete with Anthony Richardson (the No. 4 overall pick in 2023) for the Colts' starting QB job ahead of the coming season.
Khalil Herbert
Khalil Herbert Signing with Indy
Wed, Mar 12, 2025, 4:11 PM
Herbert is signing a one-year contract with the Colts, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: It's a friendly landing spot for Herbert, who fell out of favor in Chicago last season and then barely got playing time in Cincinnati until Chase Brown missed Week 18 with an ankle injury. Herbert started 12 of his 48 regular-season games in three-plus seasons with the Bears, averaging 4.8 yards on 372 carries and 6.5 yards on 45 receptions. He'll turn 27 in April and has a nice opportunity ahead, joining an Indianapolis offense that relied on Trey Sermon and Tyler Goodson for depth behind Jonathan Taylor in 2024. The downside for Herbert is that there's zero opportunity to be the starter outside of an injury scenario, but that's to be expected after a disappointing 2024.
Daniel Jones
Daniel Jones In line to sign with Indy
Tue, Mar 11, 2025, 10:00 AM
Jones is slated to sign with the Colts as both sides work to finalize a one-year contract, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Jones' contract will be a one-year, $14 million deal once finalized, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. The former Giants quarterback reportedly had an avenue to return to Minnesota, where he could have served as a veteran mentor to J.J. McCarthy (knee), but landing in Indianapolis will instead provide Jones a clear opportunity to compete with Anthony Richardson (back) for the No. 1 gig. General manager Chris Ballard has referred to an upcoming "open competition" between Richardson and a signal-caller to be brought in this offseason, a role now to be filled by Jones.
Ashton Dulin
Ashton Dulin Back to Indianapolis
Mon, Mar 10, 2025, 6:51 PM
The Colts re-signed Dulin to a two-year contract Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: The deal is worth up to $8.5 million. Dulin doesn't contribute much on offense, but he's a stalwart on special teams for the Colts. Dulin has a total of 35 catches for 517 yards and four touchdowns since entering the NFL in 2019 as an undrafted free agent out of Malone.
Anthony Richardson
Anthony Richardson To face open competition
Tue, Feb 25, 2025, 4:01 PM
Colts general manager Chris Ballard said Tuesday at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine that Richardson (back) will face "an open competition" against whatever options the team brings in at the quarterback position this offseason, Joel A. Erickson of The Indianapolis Star reports.
Analysis: Ballard already announced early January that Indianapolis' plan is to host a quarterback battle this offseason, but his use of the term "open competition" is a clearer indication that Richardson will need to truly earn any starting reps he receives Year 3. 40-year-old veteran Joe Flacco is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason, but Indianapolis does hold the14 overall pick in April's draft, and could consider selecting a signal-caller in later rounds. Richardson missed the final two games of the 2024 campaign due to a back injury, but there have been no indications that he's a candidate to miss time this offseason.
Anthony Gould
Anthony Gould Plays eight games in rookie year
Sun, Feb 16, 2025, 10:03 AM
Gould logged caught his lone target for 23 yards while adding 206 kick return yards and 95 punt return yards across eight regular-season games in 2024.
Analysis: Gould was selected by the Colts in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 142nd overall. He got some reps with the first-team offense during training camp and had an impressive preseason, but he was a healthy scratch from Week 4 to 12 and was mostly used on special teams as a returner when he did play during the regular season. Gould will participate in offseason training programs and look to earn a bigger role for himself on offense for the 2025 campaign.
Will Mallory
Will Mallory Takes step back Year 2
Tue, Jan 21, 2025, 11:01 AM
Mallory secured four of eight targets for 29 yards across 10 regular-season appearances with the Colts in 2024.
Analysis: Mallory played two less games in 2024 than as a rookie, though in 2023 he saw 26 targets (versus eight in 2024) and played 153 offensive snaps (versus 90 in 2024). He concluded the 2024 campaign as a healthy scratch. Kylen Granson and Mo Alie-Cox are both pending free agents, so Mallory could be counted on to handle a larger role in 2025, but he may need a strong offseason in order to regain this coaching staff's trust.
Mo Alie-Cox
Mo Alie-Cox Wraps 2024 with 12 catches
Tue, Jan 21, 2025, 10:55 AM
Alie-Cox secured 12 of 22 targets for 147 yards and one touchdown across 17 regular-season games.
Analysis: Alie-Cox has suited up for all 17 regular-season games in four consecutive years, playing a consistent and reliable blocking role for the Colts, though his involvement in the passing game continues to decline. The 31-year-old veteran is now slated to become an unrestricted free agent, and if Indianapolis intends to re-sign a potential departure at the tight end position, Kylen Granson could be a higher priority.
Drew Ogletree
Drew Ogletree Plays all 17 games in 2024
Tue, Jan 21, 2025, 10:45 AM
Ogletree secured nine of 14 targets for 109 yards and one touchdown across 17 regular-season appearances with the Colts in 2024.
Analysis: Ogletree suited up for all 17 regular-season games for the first time in his career Year 3, playing a consistent depth role for the Colts' offense. At 6-foot-5, 260 pounds, Ogletree is best suited to contribute as a blocker at the tight end position. He's heading into the final year of his rookie deal with Indianapolis.
Ashton Dulin
Ashton Dulin Only two catches in 2024
Tue, Jan 21, 2025, 10:33 AM
Dulin secured two of eight targets for 67 yards and one touchdown across 15 regular-season appearances with the Colts in 2024. He also rushed five times for 45 yards and compiled 148 yards on kick returns.
Analysis: Dulin spent the 2024 campaign contributing largely in a depth role on offense for Indianapolis while also handling a career-high 292 snaps on special teams. On offense, Dulin largely operated as a blocker or occasional deep threat. He's set to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
Trey Sermon
Trey Sermon Free agency looms
Tue, Jan 21, 2025, 10:20 AM
Sermon rushed 56 times for 159 yards and two touchdowns across 17 regular-season appearances with the Colts in 2024. He also secured 16 of 19 targets for 99 yards.
Analysis: Sermon suited up for all 17 of Indianapolis' regular-season games but finished the year with just a 2.8 YPC mark, a significant step down in efficiency. Jonathan Taylor dominated offensive snaps in all but the three games he missed due to injury, and at times Tyler Goodson looked like a more capable No. 2 option than Sermon. With Goodson having inked a one-year extension with the Colts, Sermon could be set to walk as an unrestricted free agent.
Anthony Richardson
Anthony Richardson Will face competition in 2025
Fri, Jan 10, 2025, 9:29 AM
Speaking with the media Friday, Colts GM Chris Ballard said Richardson (back) will face competition at the quarterback position next season, Stephen Holder of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: "We knew when we took him it was going to be a roller coaster," Ballard said of Richardson. "The number one thing we have to figure out and have to work through is he's got to stay healthy. That, to me, is the biggest question. We have to have competition at the position because competition makes you better and because he's not proven he can stay healthy for 17 games." Joe Flacco was signed to be Richardson's backup last offseason, but his one-year deal is set to expire in March, and at 40 years old (next week) he's not realistic competition. The Colts hold the No. 14 overall pick in the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft, and the roster has needs all over. Whichever way Ballard tries to find that quarterback competition, it's become clear that Richardson's leash is tightening in Indianapolis after he's started just 15 of a possible 34 games across his first two seasons.
Kylen Granson
Kylen Granson Reels in one pass
Tue, Jan 7, 2025, 6:42 PM
Granson caught one of four targets for seven yards in Sunday's 26-23 win over the Jaguars.
Analysis: Granson was unable to get much going Sunday, earning four targets for the second straight week. After a quiet 2024 campaign, the 26-year-old tight end finished the season with just 14 catches on 31 targets for 182 yards and no touchdowns. Granson is set to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason, so the former fourth-round draft pick could be headed to a new locale in 2025 unless the Colts re-sign him to a new deal.
Adonai Mitchell
Adonai Mitchell Held catchless in win
Tue, Jan 7, 2025, 6:28 PM
Mitchell failed to secure his lone target in Sunday's 26-23 win over the Jaguars.
Analysis: Mitchell was a complete non-factor in Sunday's contest, unable to reel in the only pass that came his way. The rookie wideout played just 16 of the Colts' 78 offensive snaps while operating as the No. 4 wide receiver behind Michael Pittman (71), Alec Pierce (64) and Josh Downs (59). Mitchell finished the 2024 campaign with just 23 receptions for 312 yards, failing to find the end zone through 17 games. The 22-year-old will enter the second year of his rookie deal in 2025 as the Colts will likely look to get the young receiver more involved in their offensive attack with more experience within their system.
Laquon Treadwell
Laquon Treadwell Signs futures deal with Colts
Tue, Jan 7, 2025, 11:41 AM
Indianapolis signed Treadwell to a reserve/futures contract Monday.
Analysis: Treadwell spent the 2024 campaign on the Colts' practice squad and was elevated for two regular-season games, but he wasn't targeted in either contest. The veteran wideout will spend the offseason competing to again earn a reserve role for the 2025 season.
Albert Okwuegbunam
Albert Okwuegbunam Inks futures deal with Indy
Tue, Jan 7, 2025, 11:37 AM
The Colts signed Okwuegbunam to a reserve/futures contract Monday.
Analysis: Okwuegbunam joined Indianapolis' practice squad mid-December, and he'll now get a chance to continue his development with the team during the offseason. Prior to landing with the Colts, Okwuegbunam suited up for four regular-season games with the Eagles and failed to secure his only target.
