Anthony Richardson Expected back for training camp
Fri, Jun 13, 2025, 6:52 PM
Richardson (shoulder) won't need surgery and should be healthy for the start of Colts training camp, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Richardson did not participate in Indianapolis' minicamp that ended Thursday due to an AC joint injury to his right shoulder, and he sought a second opinion from Dr. Neal ElAttrache, who previously performed surgery to address the issue. The results of that second opinion appear to indicate that the 23-year-old quarterback does not need surgery and should be ready for training camp in late July. That's a major boost to Richardson's chances of opening the 2025 season as the Colts' starting QB, as newcomer Daniel Jones has ample starting experience and worked with the first-team offense while Richardson was unavailable during minicamp.

Anthony Richardson Sought second opinion on shoulder
Tue, Jun 10, 2025, 12:18 PM
Colts coach Shane Steichen said Tuesday at the start of mandatory minicamp that Richardson (shoulder) visited Dr. Neal ElAttrache, who previously performed surgery to address his AC joint injury, for a second opinion, but that his outlook remains unchanged, Stephen Holder of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Richardson remains without a timetable to return, but Steichen previously expressed optimism that the 2023 first-round pick will be back "at some point" during training camp. Holder confirms that the team still isn't considering surgery as an option to address Richardson's injury, and that his recovery remains centered on rest and time. In the meantime, Daniel Jones will kick off mandatory minicamp as the Colts' top quarterback and face ample opportunities to lock up the Week 1 starting role as Richardson works to get back on the field.
Michael Pittman
Michael Pittman Avoids serious injury
Thu, Jun 5, 2025, 6:14 PM
Pittman left Thursday's practice with knee soreness,Mike Chappell of Fox 59 News Indianapolis reports.
Analysis: Pittman was down on the field for a few seconds after suffering the injury and then limped to the sidelines. While the issue appeared alarming, Pittman was diagnosed with soreness and has avoided serious injury. Chappell suggests that Pittman will sit out minicamp, but no official timeline has emerged.

Michael Pittman Limps off practice field
Thu, Jun 5, 2025, 1:48 PM
Pittman (undisclosed) did not return to Thursday's practice after getting tangled up during a route and limping off the field, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Pittman sustained an apparent injury at the final day of Indianapolis' voluntary OTAs, so it's possible an update on his health won't arrive until closer to the start of mandatory minicamp June 10. Meanwhile, head coach Shane Steichen said Thursday that quarterback Anthony Richardson (shoulder) won't participate in mandatory minicamp due to an aggravation of an AC joint injury, which leaves Daniel Jones primed to handle the bulk of first-team reps. Pittman played through a small fracture in his back from Week 5 onward in 2024, tallying a 69-808-3 receiving line across 16 regular-season appearances and 111 targets, while also struggling to overcome inconsistent quarterback play. Though Pittman has fully recovered from the back issue, his status now needs to be monitored until such time as he retakes the practice field.
Daniel Jones
Daniel Jones Opportunity knocks
Thu, Jun 5, 2025, 12:17 PM
Colts head coach Shane Steichen said Thursday that Anthony Richardson (shoulder) is dealing with an injury and will not participate in mandatory minicamp June 10-12, leaving Jones in position to dominate first-team reps.
Analysis: Jones and Richardson have been positioned to split first-team reps in what looks like a truly open competition for the No. 1 quarterback gig, but the latter signal-caller is now sidelined due to an injury to his throwing shoulder and without a return timetable other than hopefully being back "at some point" in training camp, per James Boyd of The Athletic. That leaves Jones, who inked a one-year, $14 million deal with Indianapolis in March, staring down an opportunity to impress while handling the lion's share of first-team reps in mandatory minicamp, and potentially longer depending on Richardson's recovery. Boyd reports that Richardson's shoulder injury is related to the AC joint issue that ended his 2023 rookie campaign early. While Boyd notes that Richardson's current injury isn't expected to require surgery, this appears to be a situation that could fluctuate. For at least mandatory minicamp, Jones will work to take advantage of the opportunity before him and establish quick chemistry with top wideouts Michael Pittman and Josh Downs, as well as rookie 14th overall pick TE Tyler Warren.

Anthony Richardson Will miss time with shoulder injury
Thu, Jun 5, 2025, 12:02 PM
Colts head coach Shane Steichen said Thursday that Richardson (shoulder) is dealing with an injury and will not participate in mandatory minicamp June 10-12.
Analysis: Steichen said Richardson injured his right throwing shoulder during the start of OTAs last week, per James Boyd of The Athletic, specifying the same AC joint that previously required the young quarterback to undergo season-ending surgery as a rookie in 2023. Per Boyd, Steichen said it doesn't currently look like Richardson will require another surgery, also saying that the signal-caller currently has no return timetable but will hopefully be back "at some point" during training camp. As long as Richardson remains sidelined, free-agency signee Daniel Jones will be positioned to dominate Indianapolis' first-team reps, giving him significant additional opportunities to prove himself capable as the team's Week 1 starter.
Jelani Woods
Jelani Woods Back at practice
Wed, May 28, 2025, 4:07 PM
Woods (toe) participated in Wednesday's practice, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Woods missed each of the Colts' last two seasons due to toe and hamstring injuries, but his participation in Wednesday's practice suggests he's past those issues. In his rookie campaign in 2022, the Virginia product caught 25 passes for 312 yards and three touchdowns over 15 games. Now back on the field, Woods is expected to compete for a reserve role in Indianapolis' tight-end room.
Anthony Richardson
Anthony Richardson Ready to compete with Jones
Wed, May 28, 2025, 3:07 PM
Richardson (back) participated in Wednesday's practice session during the Colts' ongoing voluntary organized team activities, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: A back issue sidelined Richardson for the final two games of the 2024 regular season, but the No. 4 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft has moved past the injury, which puts him in a position to compete with free agent addition Daniel Jones for the Colts' No. 1 QB job. Per Joel A. Erickson of the Indianapolis Star, coach Shane Steichen previously noted that Richardson and Jones will split first-team reps in practices and into training camp, with Steichen indicating that "really, it's going to come down to who's the most consistent, who's the most productive," in terms of who will emerge as the team's starter.
Michael Pittman
Michael Pittman Fully healed from back injury
Tue, Apr 22, 2025, 12:16 PM
Pittman (back) said Tuesday that he was not required to undergo surgery to address the small fracture in his back he played through in 2024, and that he gained clearance to play in March, Joel A. Erickson of The Indianapolis Star reports.
Analysis: Pittman expressed confidence that his rehab work has been sufficient to get past his back injury heading into the 2025 season, per James Boyd of The Athletic. Last year, Pittman reported feelings of pain dating back to training camp but managed to suit up for 16 regular-season games, despite brief consideration of landing on IR when the severity of his injury was revealed Week 3. The 27-year-old wideout also said that he's had the opportunity to work out with new quarterback Daniel Jones already, though his schedule hasn't yet overlapped with Anthony Richardson (back), Boyd reports. The Colts have embraced an open competition between Jones and Richardson to determine the No. 1 role for 2025, foreboding a quarterback picture that won't become clearer until training camp at the earliest. Whether Jones or Richardson wins the starting gig, Pittman, Alec Pierce and Josh Downs will be positioned to headline Indianapolis' wide receiver corps.
Mo Alie-Cox
Mo Alie-Cox Re-ups with Indianapolis
Fri, Apr 11, 2025, 9:43 AM
Alie-Cox re-signed with the Colts on Friday.
Analysis: Alie-Cox will return to Indianapolis for his eighth NFL season, having spent the previous seven with the Colts. His blocking ability has earned Alie-Cox steady playing time in what has been an underwhelming tight-end room in recent years, but he has fallen short of 200 receiving yards in each of the past three regular seasons.
Daniel Jones
Daniel Jones Will split first-team reps
Mon, Mar 31, 2025, 3:05 PM
Jones and Anthony Richardson (back) will split first-team reps this spring, JJ Stankevitz of Colts.com reports.
Analysis: Coach Shane Steichen and GM Chris Ballard both suggested there's no timetable for naming a Week 1 starter, with both QBs expected to get significant first-team reps throughout the offseason program (and possibly into training camp). The Colts recently signed Jones to a one-year, $14 million contract that includes $13.15 million guaranteed, putting him above the market for backup quarterbacks but not quite in starter range. It sounds like he and Richardson will split reps 50/50 at the beginning of OTAs.

Anthony Richardson Facing job battle with Jones
Mon, Mar 31, 2025, 9:10 AM
Colts coach Shane Steichen recently said Richardson (back) and Daniel Jones will split first-team reps this spring and into training camp, Joel A. Erickson of the Indianapolis Star reports.
Analysis: Taken fourth overall in the 2023 draft, Richardson has missed 17 of a possible 34 games because of injuries and was benched for another two for performance reasons, with lowlights of his career to date including a 47.7 percent completion rate in 2024. It at least sounds like he'll be healthy for the start of the offseason program, after missing the final two weeks of last season with a back injury. Jones has his own shortcomings and is highly unlikely to ever be anything more than a low-end starter or solid backup, but superior accuracy on short passes is one clear edge he has over Richardson, along with a better track record of availability (although that hasn't exactly been a strength for Jones, either).

Anthony Richardson Competition arrives
Thu, Mar 13, 2025, 12:15 PM
Richardson (back) looks slated to spend the offseason in an open competition for the No. 1 quarterback spot with Daniel Jones, whom the Colts signed to a one-year contract Wednesday, Stephen Holder of ESPN reports.
Analysis: General manager Chris Ballard has stated that Indianapolis will hold an open competition to determine a Week 1 starter for the 2025 campaign. That QB battle will take the form of Richardson, the No. 4 overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft, versus Jones, a 2019 first-rounder who started for New York until 2024, when he was benched and ultimately released. Richardson has struggled with both consistency and availability across two seasons in the NFL, having appeared in just four games as a rookie and 11 games in 2024, though he has displayed a higher potential ceiling than the more experienced Jones. Training camp and the preseason will prove pivotal for the careers of both Richardson and Jones, as the pair of signal-callers compete for one starting job.
Daniel Jones
Daniel Jones Deal with Indy made official
Wed, Mar 12, 2025, 4:20 PM
The Colts officially agreed to terms with Jones on Wednesday, JJ Stankevitz of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Per Stephen Holder of ESPN, Jones' one-year deal with Indianapolis is for $14 million. The stage is thus set for Jones -- the No. 6 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft -- to compete with Anthony Richardson (the No. 4 overall pick in 2023) for the Colts' starting QB job ahead of the coming season.
Khalil Herbert
Khalil Herbert Signing with Indy
Wed, Mar 12, 2025, 4:11 PM
Herbert is signing a one-year contract with the Colts, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: It's a friendly landing spot for Herbert, who fell out of favor in Chicago last season and then barely got playing time in Cincinnati until Chase Brown missed Week 18 with an ankle injury. Herbert started 12 of his 48 regular-season games in three-plus seasons with the Bears, averaging 4.8 yards on 372 carries and 6.5 yards on 45 receptions. He'll turn 27 in April and has a nice opportunity ahead, joining an Indianapolis offense that relied on Trey Sermon and Tyler Goodson for depth behind Jonathan Taylor in 2024. The downside for Herbert is that there's zero opportunity to be the starter outside of an injury scenario, but that's to be expected after a disappointing 2024.
Daniel Jones
Daniel Jones In line to sign with Indy
Tue, Mar 11, 2025, 10:00 AM
Jones is slated to sign with the Colts as both sides work to finalize a one-year contract, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Jones' contract will be a one-year, $14 million deal once finalized, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. The former Giants quarterback reportedly had an avenue to return to Minnesota, where he could have served as a veteran mentor to J.J. McCarthy (knee), but landing in Indianapolis will instead provide Jones a clear opportunity to compete with Anthony Richardson (back) for the No. 1 gig. General manager Chris Ballard has referred to an upcoming "open competition" between Richardson and a signal-caller to be brought in this offseason, a role now to be filled by Jones.
Ashton Dulin
Ashton Dulin Back to Indianapolis
Mon, Mar 10, 2025, 6:51 PM
The Colts re-signed Dulin to a two-year contract Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: The deal is worth up to $8.5 million. Dulin doesn't contribute much on offense, but he's a stalwart on special teams for the Colts. Dulin has a total of 35 catches for 517 yards and four touchdowns since entering the NFL in 2019 as an undrafted free agent out of Malone.
Anthony Richardson
Anthony Richardson To face open competition
Tue, Feb 25, 2025, 4:01 PM
Colts general manager Chris Ballard said Tuesday at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine that Richardson (back) will face "an open competition" against whatever options the team brings in at the quarterback position this offseason, Joel A. Erickson of The Indianapolis Star reports.
Analysis: Ballard already announced early January that Indianapolis' plan is to host a quarterback battle this offseason, but his use of the term "open competition" is a clearer indication that Richardson will need to truly earn any starting reps he receives Year 3. 40-year-old veteran Joe Flacco is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason, but Indianapolis does hold the14 overall pick in April's draft, and could consider selecting a signal-caller in later rounds. Richardson missed the final two games of the 2024 campaign due to a back injury, but there have been no indications that he's a candidate to miss time this offseason.
Anthony Gould
Anthony Gould Plays eight games in rookie year
Sun, Feb 16, 2025, 10:03 AM
Gould logged caught his lone target for 23 yards while adding 206 kick return yards and 95 punt return yards across eight regular-season games in 2024.
Analysis: Gould was selected by the Colts in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 142nd overall. He got some reps with the first-team offense during training camp and had an impressive preseason, but he was a healthy scratch from Week 4 to 12 and was mostly used on special teams as a returner when he did play during the regular season. Gould will participate in offseason training programs and look to earn a bigger role for himself on offense for the 2025 campaign.
Will Mallory
Will Mallory Takes step back Year 2
Tue, Jan 21, 2025, 11:01 AM
Mallory secured four of eight targets for 29 yards across 10 regular-season appearances with the Colts in 2024.
Analysis: Mallory played two less games in 2024 than as a rookie, though in 2023 he saw 26 targets (versus eight in 2024) and played 153 offensive snaps (versus 90 in 2024). He concluded the 2024 campaign as a healthy scratch. Kylen Granson and Mo Alie-Cox are both pending free agents, so Mallory could be counted on to handle a larger role in 2025, but he may need a strong offseason in order to regain this coaching staff's trust.
